Conceptually you will have needed to look at only one story.
But of course that story may not discuss the trigger/main event,
as you point out. Nonetheless, and ideally, this should be enough
to identify the topic unequivocally. And while the topic statement
may be modified as time goes on to better represent the main event,
I don't think that this should be necessary for topic selection.
Let this be a discussion point at the meeting.
