Subject: Question about chronological ordering of data
Date: Fri, 22 May 1998 17:20:06 EDT
Hubert Jin has just posed a question to me about getting a
chronologically ordered list of all stories in the current release.
This issue was discussed at the May meeting, but apparently I was not
taking notes at the time, and did not retain a clear action item
about it.
So now I am uncertain about what is needed. I sort of recall that
there was discussion about the set of sample files being
chronologically ordered (not the individual stories pooled without
regard to source file), and that it would be sufficient for this
ordering to be the same as the standard alphanumeric sorting of the
file names (that is, the "ls" command produces the chronologically
sorted list of sample files).
The stories within any given file are presented in chronological
order (i.e., their order of appearance in the captured transmission),
so if my recollection is correct, then nothing more is needed beyond
the sorted list of file names.
Does this agree with the recollections of others at the meeting?
Thanks,
Dave Graff
