The FBI is investigating acid attacks on five miami-area clinics where
abortions are performed. Three people sustained minor injuries. The
fire department identifies the substance in four cases as butyric
acid. Its fumes are not life threatening, but can be nauseating. The
attacks were staged the day after governor lawton Chiles vetoed a
specialty license plate carrying the slogan "choose life." It was
supported by anti-abortion activists.
