For "the world, " this is Pamela McCall in the BBC newsroom in London.
The United States has chartered two jumbo jets to help its nationals
flee Asia. Riot torn Jakarta had been packed with foreigners and netiones
as the unrest continues. "The world's" Jesse brandon reports on the
American evacuation. The state department is urging the 8, 000 Americans
living in Indonesia to leave while they can. Even though no foreigners
have been reported hurt in the four days of rioting that have rocked
the country, the American embassy is evacuating nonessential personnel.
Major international corporations are buying employees one-way tickets
out, and the U.S. government is preparing to airlift citizens from
Jakarta to Singapore and bang cock. With all Friday flights booked,
the two charter Boeing 747's are bound to be full tomorrow. For "the
world, " I'm Jesse brandon. Students spear heading the protests are
still demanding that President Suharto step down. They say if he doesn't
there could be more trouble ahead. One of their leaders is shelvi
Lolita. This afternoon we just heard that he never said he wants to
resign. Clearly the students are getting more worried, maybe it's
getting to be more riots. But we hope it's not going to be like that,
because students and international leckchulls, they are not supporting
the idea of having revolution here. In China, a student -- an Indonesian
student leader.
