TDTers,
Things seem to be in good shape for our June dry run: NIST has created a
lucid TDT3 web page and has published a detailed evaluation plan. The LDC
has provided a variety of useful Mandarin resources plus enough annotated
TDT2 Mandarin data to fuel research. They are busy annotating the rest of
the TDT2 Mandarin and will shortly release a more accurate version of the
TDT2 English data (retranscribed by NIST using a fast BBN recognizer).
You should now be able to make GREAT progress.
For the dry run, I am particularly interested in having as many sites as
possible try out the untranslated Mandarin data. Each task requires use
Mandarin, but (except for segmentation) permits use of machine-translated
data. If you use the untranslated data, we will learn more about Mandarin
issues and the adequacy of the companion resources. Learning these things
now will enable us to make adjustments before fall.
