Subject: TDT meeting in October

TDT people,
***PLEASE READ AND RESPOND***
The dry run workshop in the fall will be held Thursday, October 7, at
the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. The meeting will run for
one day. No agenda has been established yet, but it is highly likely
that the meeting will start early enough that you will need to fly in
the night before.
We recommend you make lodging plans NOW, and ask that you let us know
your planned attendence now. See below....
*** LODGING ALERT ***
October 7th is the Thursday before the the busiest tourist weekend of
the year for New England (peak leaf peeping time). Unfortunately,
some of the local hotels are already booked solid!
A room block is reserved at Howard Johnson's Hotel, 1 mile from campus on
Route 9 in Hadley, at the intersection of Route 9 and Route 116. Phone
number 413-586-0114. A preferred corporate rate of $56+tax/nite is offered
(includes continental breakfast) - make sure you reference TDT. You must
call for room reservations by Sept. 6th.
If you prefer, The Hotel Northampton (413-5867-8106) in Northampton Center
(comparable to Lord Jeffrey) does have some rooms available, but they are
filling fast - I suggest you call them asap if you want a room there.
Staying at this hotel makes your trek to campus slightly worse, but
it's still not much compared to most cities' rush-hour traffic.
*** ATTENDENCE ALERT ***
We would very much appreciate getting a rough sense of the number of
people who will attend. Because classes are in session that day, our
choice of rooms is somewhat limited. If you could drop a note to Kate
Moruzzi (kate@cs.umass.edu or 413/545-0463) to indicate how many
people from your organization are likely to attend, we'd appreciate.
The number is not a hard commitment, just an estimate to help us
plan. A range is a fine answer.
*** OTHER INFO ***
Directions to campus and a listing of other local Inns are found at the
following website: http://www.pse.umass.edu/cumirp/visit.html Other
The airport of choice is Hartford, Connecticut (BDL). It is about an
hour from campus. Boston is over two hours away. Providence (RI) and
Manchester (NH) are also possibilities, I suppose.
Agenda, etc., will be along eventually, of course. But probably not
for a fair while.
