Hello, TDTers.
I need to do a bit of planning for the TDT 2002 evaluation workshop.
I am interested in two things: who is doing what, and who is planning
to attend the dry run workshop in July.
(1) The TDT 2002 evaluation is in its training phase right now. The
TDT-4 evaluation corpus and index files will be made available in
September with the evaluation results due in October. This is new
data with new topics, and it includes Arabic data as well as Chinese
and English. The TDT workshop itself will be held in November around
TREC. The tasks will be the same as before (segmentation, tracking,
cluster detection, new event detection [aka first story detection],
and link detection). Jon has forwarded a message wrt some possible
alternatives on some tasks.
** What TDT tasks are you intending to participate in? If you
hope to do some but aren't sure, list them or possibly put
a "maybe" annotation after them.
(2) The TDT 2002 dry run meeting is scheduled for July 23rd in Santa
Monica, CA. This message is set up for the day immediately preceding
a TIDES PI meeting, partly because TIDES is the major funder of the
TDT-4 corpus construction, and partly because several of the TDT
researchers are involved in TIDES. I hope that most sites can have at
least one person at the meeting so that we can iron out any issues that
need to be resolved for the fall.
** How many people do you expect will be at the dry run meeting?
Please let me know even if the answer is "0"! If you're not
participating in any TDT evaluation tasks, then you can skip
this question.
Please let me know the answer to both questions by Tuesday (11th) or
as soon after that as you can.
